Our table tennis team was up against hall 16 for the first preliminary round this morning, and we had to win at least three out of the five matches in order to qualify for the next round.
The team kick-started the matches with an 11-6 win in the first set during the men’s singles. However, our opponent later caught up with an 8-11 and 7-11 scores respectively for the next two consecutive sets, and the first hint of pressure and tension hung in the air. Nonetheless, things began looking better as our team persevered on with a score of 11-8 in the fourth set, and finishing off nicely with 11-3 in the final set, giving us the first taste of confidence and victory.
An even more exciting match awaits us in the women’s singles match, as our opponent was leading in the first two sets with 4-11 and 7-11 scores. The third and fourth sets were the turning point for team se7en as both sides was each leading the scores by a near margin alternatively, with our team eventually emerging with 13-11 and 11-7 scores. Sadly, luck was not on our side as the opponent ultimately calls the shots in the last set with a 6-11 win.
In contrast to the women’s singles battle, the extremely good rapport and teamwork in our men’s doubles team enabled us to take the lead again with a straightforward 11-5, 12-10, and 11-1 win, finishing their match in barely 15 minutes and bringing us a step closer to victory.
Similarly, in the women’s doubles match, our team hardly broke a sweat as the crowd cheered them on, bringing team se7en a level higher into the next qualifying round with 11-3, 11-6, 9-11, and 11-5 win.
The last match to be played was the mixed doubles’ match despite the previous triumphing of hall se7en as the winner in this preliminary round. This match proved to be the highlight of the day as both teams were determined to test their skills. The tension in the air became more intense as our opponents came down hard on us. Their efforts and tactics to intimidate our players were fruitless as our team played with conviction and perseverance. It was a well-fought match despite us losing with 7-11, 7-11, 12-10, and 3-11 scores.
All in all, the day ended well as we still emerged victorious. Thumbs up, team se7en!
