basketball female into QFs!

Our girls fighting for Hall 7

Today was the decisive match between hall 2 and hall 7 basketball girls as to which team will qualify for the quarters. The game was to be played at 0900 hours and for many hall residents, it's certainly disruptive to wake up at such an unearthly time. But to every one's surprise, a hort of supporters turned up for the game and their undying cheers and support definitely intimidated the opposing support team and left them aghast at the results as se7en basketball girls won the game 29-28.

Having already won hall 2 basketbll girls in the first preliminary game, there was no doubt at all in our players' mind that they will qualify for the quarters. Eventually, it was this belief that brought them through. The game started with se7en girls knowing that they have to score early, capitalise on every opportunity, minimise any errors and mark 2 of hall 2 star players.

Our girls played with lightning speed in the first half, trying to tire out the opponents and Cheryl's performance and ability to evade the opposing defense, saw her score many goals to eventually allow us to gain a comfortable lead by first hall, a margin of 21-12. However, already committing three fouls, Cheryl had to be substituted and our veteran player, Jean got a chance to show what she's capable of as she singlehandedly closed done on Hall 2's Cheryl who's also their star player.

Even though the team deployed man-marking tactic to limit two of hall 2 star players' movement, the occasional laspse in concentration saw se7en committing many fouls in a bid to stop her from scoring. Soon, the score was 29-28 in hall 7 favour and the coach called for time-out to drill into the players' mind that they should defend tightly and strictly not to commit any fouls. In the last 20 seconds, the se7en supporters were breaking out in cold sweat as hall 2 was in possession and looked so close to scoring which would have sent them into the quarters. However, the referee soon blew the whistle and both the team and the supporters broke out in a chorus of cheers as we savour sweet victory against a bitter rival.

Today, we witness a team effort by the se7en basketball girls and there was no single player bigger or brighter than the team and we're hugely proud of them. Here's wishing them luck to go all the way!
